Monteverdi Project

Myall treble viol scroll

The Monteverdi Project was established to fulfil Peter Holman’s long-standing ambition to perform all the major works of Monteverdi over five years. It began with The Coronation of Poppea at the 2016 Festival and continued with the Vespers of 1610 in 2017, the 450th anniversary of Monteverdi’s birth in Cremona.  In 2018 we had the courtly ballets, and in 2019 Il ritorno d’Ulisse.

These works, especially the operas, need a larger cast of soloists and more rehearsal time than we can normally afford, hence the establishment of this Fund to cover the extra costs.  We have had a heart-warming response to the appeal and the performance of Orfeo, originally scheduled for the 2020 Festival, then postponed until 2021 will finally take place during the 2022 Festival and will mark the completion of the Project.

We shall, of course, continue to perform works by Monteverdi, and have left the Monteverdi Project fund open to further donations.

If you would rather donate by cheque, BACS or over the phone, please download a form you can complete and send to us.
